Old to New: Evolution of the Grocery Concept - Hello Amazon Fresh
πͺ File this under #TheNewGrocer: We love to travel through time via the atmospheric photographs of New York City storefronts captured by @jamesandkarla - the corner shop has evolved into many iterations over the last 100 years; perhaps the farthest departure, @amazonfresh cashierless grocery concept.
π After their acquisition of Whole Foods in 2017, @amazon moved quickly into this space rapidly transforming traditional grocery operations into a symphonic dance of streamlined technology.
π We believe technology is at its best when it is invisible, non-disruptive and enhances the customer experience. We were early visitors to the first checkoutless @amazongo store in Seattle (there are now 18+ locations), and have seen that influence other concepts in the convenience space; it's interesting to see that evolve further into full-on grocery.
π₯¬ We appreciate the ecosystem approach of Amazon Fresh - use the Alexa app to add items to your shopping list when at home, making it that much easier to find and tick items off your list when navigating the aisles in-store. π£ Ask Alexa where to find items or suggestions for food and wine pairings via the kiosks in-store. π±Utilize the slick Order Ahead app to have made-fresh food ready for pickup at a time of your choosing. Of course, many of us habitualized home delivery during quarantine, a convenience that gave us back hours each week to do things we love, rather than errands.
π₯ Amazon has made an effort to highlight regional growers and brands in their stores, connecting to local communities and ensuring customers have long-time favorites. π These stores are also equipped with Amazon Dash Carts, enabling customers to skip the checkout line - expediting the shopping experience even more.
πWith 8 stores in California, 4 in Illinois, 1 in Virginia and 1 opening soon in Washington D.C., Amazon has 28 new stores in development across the U.S. // #emotifExplores #emotifRecommends
